Legislation in Australia has been enacted to allow Australian Medical Boards to recognise certain qualifications and registrations from outside of Australia and New Zealand for the purpose of full or general unrestricted registration. I have pasted the link for the Bill and the subsequent Act. Section 44 is the relevant part. This is for Queensland, however I am sure other States have there own amendments being read in their Parliaments.

I understand the Medical Board of Queensland is waiting on the Australian Medical Council to credential the GMC and or PMETB in their ability to supervise undergraduate medical schools and to make sure there is equivalence with the AMC's process. I have heard they hope to have this cleared by the New Year.....
