Womb up for grabs, any takers ?

Talking Womb up for grabs, any takers ?

“Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.”
The Bible.

This is just a discussion of a recent article in the BBC announcing that a team of doctors in the US were planning a uterus transplant in the near future !! Following are some personal views. Readers can chip in with their comments. You can also start discussions on any other medical issue by opening up new threads.

As mentioned in the article the risk of rejection is present throughout pregnancy. Non-vital transplants are generally undertaken by individuals who accept the risk involved but think that the benefits they accrue will outweigh that. We should respect those views.

But here the scenario is entirely different. A woman in her desire to deliver a baby is putting at risk not only herself but her unborn child as well. Is it ethical for her to make this decision on behalf of the unborn child ?

On one hand medical science has made dramatic progress to detect and attempt to remedy diseases in the unborn child, and on the other, such unnatural methods of conception are being envisaged !

When our planet is staggering under an ever burgeoning human population do we need such medical pyrotechnics to add to the Earth's woes ?
And what a waste of resources which could have benefited really needy patients.

A woman's desire to give birth is understandable but is it motherly to put your baby's life at such high risk !! Isn't it mere selfishness ?
