Adrenoreceptors are classified into alpha and beta receptors. The alpha receptors are sub divided into alpha 1 and 2.beta receptors are subdivided into 1 and 2.
Generally beta receptors are for flight or fight response. Once stimulated they are responsible with keeping the muscles well fed and oxygenated. To this means they cause a tachycardia, splancnic vasoconstriction, hepatic gluconeogenesis.
Alpha receptors are responsible for control of the systemic vascular resistance. Stimulation results in vasoconstriction. There are alpha receptors within the iris which are responsible for pupilary dilation.
