Adrenocorticotrophic hormone, corticotrophin, is a polypeptide hormone, secreted by anterior pitutary glandin response to corticotrophin releasing factor secreted by hypothalamus.
ACTH is release in condition of stress, emotion.
It increases steriod synthesis, basically, glucocorticoid, as well as aldosterone.
ACTH is used in place of steriod therapy in an attempt to reduce adrenocortical suppression also used in for diagnostic tests in endocrinology.
