TFFTF

The kidneys receive 25% of the cardiac output. This is divided between both kidneys who in an adult receive 600mls/minute each. With a filtration fraction of 20% 125 mls/minute is filtered. Over the course of a day some 180 litres are filtered. Approximately 1.5 litres urine is formed per day indicating that 99% of the filtrate is reabsorbed. Generally the proximal convoluted tubule is for bulk absorption, with the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts responsible for fine tuning of excreted urine composition.
Each kidney has more than 15 million neurones and use less than 20% of the total body oxygen consumption
