Cerebral blood flow is in general reduced by intravenous induction agents and increased by volatile anaesthetic agents.
The control of cerebral blood flow is under auto regulation however partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide are important. The relationship between CBF and co2 partial pressures are almost linear so with hypercarbia the CBF increases. In hypoxic conditions the CBF increases however there is no change in conditions of hyperoxia.
