c) can be modified by cutting the spinothalamic tract
d) can be modified by strenuous exercise
e) can be modified by non painful stimuli in the same area.

F mainly in spinothalamic tract
F it is an opiate agonist at mu receptors so alleviates pain
T in the short term
T causes beta endorphin release
T this is the basis of gate theory (melzack and wall 1967)
