A further 51 F1 posts are vacant at the Norfolk and Norwich Trust in Norfolk, these will be appointed to separately outside of MDAP and will involve an interview. We will provide further information on this process shortly. The posts are displayed for your information on the 2nd worksheet of the spreadsheet.

General information for candidates
This electronic system is being used to appoint to Foundation Year 1 (F1) Programmes in eight Deaneries for posts that commence on August 1, 2006. There is an understanding that the appointments will be for 2-year Foundation Programmes, but at this stage it is usual for only the F1 programme to be defined. The Deaneries involved are Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS), Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR), London, Northern Ireland, North-Western, Trent, Yorkshire and West Midlands.
There are more than 3,000 F1 posts.
The website will be open to applications from 10am on Friday, October 14, 2005, and will close at 12pm on Monday, December 5, 2005. The electronic system enables the application to be completed at times of the candidate’s convenience and changes can be made up until the closing date. Changes to personal details can be made at any time. The results of the appointment process will be made available to candidates by January 31, 2006.
Access to the scheme is through PIN and password. For candidates from the medical schools within the eight Deaneries, these will be available through the medical schools themselves. All other candidates in the UK, EU and from non-EU countries must complete the “Dean’s Permission” form available on this website to obtain a PIN.
Candidates who are eligible for limited (unless this is confined to pre-registration posts by the GMC) or full registration are not eligible for this scheme and will not be able to obtain PIN access.
All candidates must be in a position to commence in post on August 1, 2006.
All applicants must have skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. Graduation from a UK medical school would be considered evidence of this, but candidates must confirm their language skills on their application forms. Language skills may be assessed by an employing NHS Trust before an offer of appointment is made.
Eligibility
Provisional Registration
The basic rule is that two year Foundation Programmes commencing in August 2006 are available to those doctors who are required by the GMC to undertake a year of provisional training.
The following groups of doctors are able to apply:
All UK medical graduates are required to undertake a 2 year foundation programme and therefore should apply through this process.
EEA graduates from the following countries, which have an undergraduate medical education system similar to the UK, can apply for provisional registration:
Austria
Denmark
Czech Republic * Some graduates only – see below
Finland
France
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Lithuania
Malta
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Slovenia
Sweden
Switzerland
International Medical Graduates (IMGs): These doctors must hold PLAB2. A small proportion of PLAB2 doctors will have been informed by the GMC that, when registered, they will have to work under limited registration in PRHO or Foundation Year 1 posts. These are the only holders of PLAB2 who would be eligible to apply under this scheme. Confirmation of the GMC guidance can be obtained by emailing the GMC at the following e-mail address:
restrictedlr@gmc-uk.org
The following groups of doctors are NOT eligible to apply:
EEA graduates with degrees from the following countries, which have a system where the PRHO/F1 year equivalent forms part of the undergraduate medical course, and they are therefore not eligible for provisional registration*:
Belgium
Czech Republic*
Estonia
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Latvia
Netherlands
Slovak Republic
Spain
International Medical Graduates (IMGs): The majority of PLAB2 holders have already undertaken a PRHO/intern equivalent year in their own country and would not be eligible for Foundation Year 1, or 2 year Foundation Programmes.
* these EEA countries would normally include the equivalent of an intern or PRHO year in their undergraduate course, and their graduates would therefore not be eligible. However, there may be exceptions, and applicants required to hold limited registration and to work in a PRHO/F1 post are advised to contact the GMC to confirm their status. Doctors holding full or provisional registration are not required to confirm their status with the GMC.
Further information relating to eligibility and advice to candidates is posted on the MMC website (

There will be no interviews – personal statements will be scored. There are six headings for the personal statements, each with two sub-sections. The maximum number of words that can be entered into a sub-section is 75.
Statements will be scored by panels from the relevant Deanery or from the Trust of the applicant's first choice. There will be only one final score for each candidate, which will be used to determine the order of allocation of posts.
It is essential that candidates are honest in their personal statements. There will be an audit of quality where candidates are asked to submit written evidence supporting their statements. Those who submit false statements will be reported to the GMC. In addition, software for plagiarism will be used and Trusts will seek written evidence to support applications before successful applicants take up posts.
Candidates are expected to give the email and postal addresses of two referees who have been closely involved in his or her training. References from persons not involved in training will not be processed.
Candidates who are unable to commence in posts on August 1, 2006, for exam failures or other reasons, may have their job allocation withdrawn.
